On Getting Per Diem

Hi all:
A couple of weeks ago I asked listserv members about getting per diem on remote temp contractor work assignments. (I live about 120 miles from three other major markets and I figure that, if I can get paid living expenses, temping in those cities would significantly expand my range of possibilities.)
I took the advice I got and then talked to some more agencies. This is my current understanding - provided here as general info for all:
* If you work as a remote contractor on a fed gov project, you will get full (gsa schedule) per diem.
* Some of the more reputable agencies say they will other full per diem.
* Other of the more reputable agencies say they will offer partial per diem (about 1/2 of the gsa schedule).
* Many of the questionable agencies (esp those on a certain well know web site for contract workers) will either pretend they never heard of the word per diem or will fake a language barrier problem to avoid any discussion of the issue.
