I hate to admit this, but I respond differently to new people when
they start post here depending on their email address. It's kinda
like a dress code. You can be the most brilliant writer, but until
you prove you are, if you come to work in a tee shirt with an
unprofessional and inappropriate message, I'll start you lower on the
scale than someone who comes to work dressed professionaly. Same with
an email address. 

Granted, as soon as you open your mouth, you are changing your
position on the the scale, but wouldn't you rather start higher and
take the chance of dropping than start lower and work to increase
your position?
