I think the issue is not whether adding numbers to your e-mail address gives
away your age, but whether people seeing those numbers might presume they are
clues to your age. Bad enough to lose a job on a correct guess--it would be
awful to lose a job on an INCORRECT guess!
(By the way: former Congressman Mark Foley has been much in the news lately. We
have seen instant messages allegedly from him using the AOL screen name Maf54. I
don't know what the combination of letters and numbers means, but if you were to
guess Congressman Foley's initials are MAF you'd be right, and if you were to
guess that he was born in 1954 you'd be right again.)
