innovative methods of organization

I'd hardly call it "innovative," but here's what I do.
- For email, I create separate folders in Outlook for specific categories (
e.g. one for TechWR-L, one for Admin, one for Procedures, etc.). Where
possible, I set up a rule that directs new email to them automatically. This
is only possible if there are characteristics that you can guarantee are
part of a message that fits that category - for TechWR-L, for example, I
know that the list email address will be involved.
- For electronic files, I create folders in Windows Explorer for files of
specific types (downloads, time sheets, etc.). This is over and above the
"enforced" file management that comes with our source control software for
the actual documentation files. I never use the desktop for anything other
that shortcuts to applications I want to run.
