If you'll take another look at the message that seems to be annoying
you, you'll notice that it is sent by the listowner, and that the first
paragraph explains the purpose of the message:
You received this message because you're a subscriber to TECHWR-L.
This ad posting is sent daily directly to all list members to help
underwrite the costs of the list (just as ads in a newspaper,
magazine, or journal underwrite the costs of those publications).
Commercial messages are prohibited from the main list. If you have a
commercial message you wish to transmit to the list members, you
must pay for that service, and your message will appear in that
once-a-day broadcast message from the listowner. Generally you'll
see specific messages repeating every day for a week, or two weeks,
or a month, depending on the term of the service that was purchased
by the poster.
As to the list itself, you must have something wron in your settings
because the list has been relatively active over the last week or two.
And regarding the subjects you wish to read more about, you should
spend some time in the list archive. Most of these subjects do come
up, but sporadically (a few times a year, say) rather than continuously,
with discussion usually petering out after a few days. Many of these
topics are well-tilled ground with little new to be said, and some of
the long-time list members (including me on my more curmudgeonly
days) are pretty tired of seeing the same comments about the same
issues over an over as new people join the list and ask common
questions without making any attempt to mine the archives.
