But the advanced manual is insufficient without a few pages of basic
information. You still need to carry both manuals until you're familiar
with the camera, so why not put a summary of the basics in the advanced
manual?

I'm fine with it. They give basic information in the basic manual and
advance information in the advanced manual.
It's not their fault that you thought you could skip the basic manual
and later found out you can't
