What Al said makes sense to me, and I believe that this solution (of
providing just a few of the basics, in an advanced user manual for a
consumer electronics product) is standard in the industry. If it's not a
standard practice, then it should be. 

I don't think that Jessica is saying that she thought that she could skip
the basic manual. She's just saying that it would be easier if they were to
have included just a few of the basics in the advanced manual.
