In the interest of keeping this relevant to tech writing, I wouldn't bank on
the above considering that the job market tends to slow this time of year.

All of the credit card companies that I deal with are also flexible under
extenuating circumstances, but they charge for that flexibility.  This is a
nominal monthly charge that protects me in case I become disabled,
unemployed, etc.
