Granted that is an option. But we are talking some 30 manuals of
varying lengths.

I'll look into that longer term.

Ideally I'd like not to have to think about the bookmarks at all, just
generate them automatically when publishing to pdf.

Am I better off looking at an external plugin for this? Any
reccomendations, or things to avoid?
