Moving away from MS Word?

Hi Sylvia,

Your original post stated that, "Documents are very large (over 600
pages), they are very complex and Word isn't behaving well despite the
fact that I have the best computer in the company."

The TECHWR-L and Word-PC archives have posts from tech writers who work
successfully with bigger and more complex documents than that, *without*
Master Documents or top-of-the-line PCs.

However, there are two caveats:
1. You have to know how to plan and maintain these documents.
2. You have to keep other people from messing them up.

Master Documents won't really help you with either #1 or #2.

If you leave Word for another app, you'll still have to worry about #1.
If you choose an app that your colleagues don't know how to use, then
you won't have to worry about #2. You will, however, create a new worry
for your company!
