Photoshop/ImageReady Layers - web buttons

Since I do have the images separate form the buttons themselves, and therefore starting from the top is mostly a matter of copy and paste - I've decided to do that.  This is a self-learning experiment, so there is not actual deadline, and doing the details over will only help me recall how next time.  I'm trying out your instructions now.  I will be using Dreamweaver to finish the site design, so the buttons will be CSS.  

Any further tips anyone has will be most welcome!
