BIG Word file to PDF - with bookmarks?

Folks,

I have this enormous Word file which will not PDF in one go - I have to break it up into three pieces.

When I break it up, I use Document>Pages>Insert to place the TOC from each piece at the beginning, and the text at the end. This works fine, except the links between the inserted TOC and the text break.

Anybody had to deal with this? Maybe a need to make the three pieces a "book" with a separate toc file?
