The 'user' in User Manual

I just jumped back into this thread after missing a good part of it. I taught English as a second language for a number of years and have a Master's degree in that area of teaching. I, too, have never heard of deictic or anamorphic pronouns.
I did google them, however, and found out why I had not heard of them: these are linguistics terms, not categories in traditional grammar. Here's where I found the definitions:

I must say, in 23 years of work, I've never encountered a technical writing department that required its writers to know linguistics terminology and theories. Traditional grammar, yes; linguistics, no.
