What if you store the images in a different folder but with the same names?
...and while compiling the output, you only have to rename the folders.
For example,
Condition A
/Images
/Images_Condition_B
Condition B
/Images (formerly was /Images_Condition_B)
/Images_Condition_A (formerly was /Images)
