I would ignore her hints politely, turning the
subject if possible, and not deal with this issue
unless and until she directly asks you to stay on
a regular basis. Then I'd respectfully ask her whether
the flex time policy is still in effect, and point out
that you have established a routine for working from
8 - 4:30 and would prefer not to be expected to regularly
stay until 5:30, although you will stay on occasion if
your own job responsibilities or schedule require it.
I wouldn't bring in any of these other points about it
being her responsibility as manager to set an example or
to stay until 5:30 (even though I personally agree with
you about them).
