Management, like science fiction, movies, TV, snack foods, gadgets,
software manuals, and a host of other things, tends to follow Sturgeon's
Law*. Excellence in almost any endeavor is rare. 

The exceptions are things like high-altitude mountaineering, precision
aerobatics, etc., where the mediocre and inadequate tend not to survive.


The "termination with extreme prejudice" of sub-par managers hasn't
caught on in most places. ;-)
