Allow me to place my vote for Gene Wolfe and Jack Vance.

I'd have to ask which is easier: coming up with critical thinking behind
the scenes, or applying art and craft to something already possessing
that level of idea. There's a useful perception in thinking through that
one which has influenced how I appreciate any writing.
Zelazny is now on the Amazon.com wishlist, in addition to some silly
oldies from Brunner, Burroughs and Dick (the apocalyptic lords of
sci-fi, in my book).
