  How useful.
  And no inclination to use 'persist' as
 a transitive verb; praise the IBM gods.
   
  [trivia a little off topic] The intransitive use is almost 
a cliché in French for signature blocks, when one wishes
 to indicate stubborness about maintaining one's point of view, 
even when deluged by contrairian fact:
 "Je persiste et signe" i.e., I persist [in stating x] and sign.
