Oh I agree!  I just thought that perhaps, in a piece where I was going on about the classic mise-en-scene of the proto-soap-opera, I'd have to use language that many would consider "female." It turned out I was correct, but in only by a small margin.  

As for good writing being a male characteristic, I'd be apt to slant that a little differently, and say that we, as a culture (educated English speakers) consider the characteristics of good writing to be male, by default.  

So much of what makes a writing style "good" is a matter of fashion.  Long-term fashion, to be sure, but, still fashion.
