Contrast that with math.
There was a time when calculus was not even introduced until 
college. Now, it's assumed as a pre-requisite for first-year 
university math (or you take it as a remedial/make-up course 
along with basic readin'n'writin' as more and more frosh seem 
to need...).

Won't be long before you'll need tensors and Laplace transforms 
to get into grade 9. But language and organized comms skills are 
being pushed UP-slope instead. Howzat?
