Punctuation question

Business letter or formal business e-mail:

	Dear Mr. Smith:

	-or-

Ron: (after the whole etiquette dance about use of first names)

Casual e-mail to business colleague or friend (or boss if they're the
casual type):

	Hi, Jody!

	-or-

	Jody,

I suppose the new e-mail rules allow for the salutation to be dropped
completely, but I'm personally irritated by that practice. The writer
can take a millisecond to acknowledge me before they jump right into
whatever it is that's All About Them.
