Punctuation question

I just received an e-mail from an STC chapter colleague where the
punctuation for salutation and signature did a great job of tying the
message together into a neat package:

Dori --

Blah blah blah

-- Sally

I like it, but will continue to use the colon for formal business and
bad news communications, as in:

	Bob:

You promised to get my furnace fixed two weeks ago. I have the
November rent payment ready and you will receive it as soon as I
have
	heat.

	Dori

For communications like that, a comma is just too friendly.
