Primordial or Primitive objects for installation and configuration

In a software sense, "primitives" are very basic code snippets that are
combined to make up higher/larger structures. Think a step or three
down from "module". I don't think the concept is even used in modern
languages, is it? I think I remember it in conjunction with APL or some
other language from the 70s... oops... did I just date myself?
"Primordial"..... wrt software? That'd be a new one on me.
