Technical Writer or Documentation Writer?

For me, "Technical Writer" says it well. I write about technical
subjects, for technical people, who do technical things, in a very
technical manner.

 

Ron Hearn wondered: So where does that leave me as a Documentation
Specialist?

My title as-hired is "Publications Specialist."  But so is the person
who only does book layout in Frame or SGML -- and come-to-think-of-it,
so is the teenager who does document scanning and clean-up. I think the
title is meant to convey that our dept is made up of "Swiss Army knives"
that can do whatever is called for (which is somewhat true).

 

The engineers refer to me as "Doc" (or nuisance).
