wmv file problem

All,

I received a training .wmv file via email. I have the most recent
version of windows media player loaded on my PC with Windows XP (SP2)
and no restrictions as to watching any type of multimedia. What's weird
about this file is that some of the recipients of the file can view the
file just fine in its wmv format using Windows Media Player and others
get only the audio - the video is distorted and shows only primary
colors and outlines. If I convert the file to .avi, then I and the
others who are having trouble can watch the video without any problem -
clear, clear video with the audio. I have attempted to compare the
systems between those who can view the file in its wmv format and those
you can't and I just can't seem to find any glaring "aha" or "gotcha"
that would explain this discrepancy.

Any and all advice would be appreciated!
