Some questions that might help us help you:
-- What versions of Word and Acrobat, and what OS?
-- What do you mean by "implicit links"?
-- What do you mean by "Creating a pdf from Word or Acrobat"? (Acrobat
is the tool for creating or viewing PDFs, so creating a PDF from Acrobat
doesn't make sense to me.)
-- How are you creating PDFs from Word?
