When dealing with the HR department, it's important to remember
that their primary responsibility is to protect the interests of the
*company*. If they also do something that is good for an individual
employee, so much the better, and you do find HR people who are
genuine and helpful by nature. But when push comes to shove they
must always put the company first or else their own performance
evaluation will suffer.
