It sounds to me like your predecessor was implying "any" or "all." If
that's the case, the word "given" is probably superfluous so I would
delete it. If the words "any" or "all" are necessary for clarity sake
then I'd use one of those words instead of "given."
I would also try cycling words like the following:
--To edit "any" account...
--To edit *a particular type of* account...
--To edit "all" accounts...
--To edit "this" account...
--To edit "a current" account...
--To edit "your" account...
I'd then retain the word that seemed most appropriate.

Subject: It's a "given"!
I'm editing/revising a predecessor's writing. My predecessor had a
fondness for the word "given." For example:
* "To edit a given account..." (instead of just "To edit an account...")
* "To assign a given user additional rights..." (instead of just "To
assign a user additional rights...")
To me, the word "given" seems unnecessary. Any opinions? When/why would
it be appropriate to use this word?
Just curious... Thanks!
Keith
