Once I was given a document and instructed to "tart it up". I resisted
the urge to ask what kind of lipstick they wanted.

Sometimes they don't even get that far.
They have jobs that are difficult enough to do, without understanding
what WE do, too.
And when they pause, searching for the correct words, I jump in with
something like, "I will work on the clarity, organization, and flow of
the information." They nod and continue.
It is a step above prettying things up.
