Yes, and by the same token if your local chapter is not active, it's
tough to find the benefits in that regard. My local chapter has seen
another decline in recent years. I decided not to renew my local
chapter affiliation this year and instead go with 3 SIGs (plus a few
extra). This doesn't mean I won't be able to go to local events, but
it does allow me other options for obtaining value from my membership.

Some of the webinars I've attended were excellent, and others were
lacking. Like anything, it's going to be hit or miss. But you do get
discounts for them and other things via STC membership.
Really it comes down to how much you want to self-invest in the STC. I
don't particularly care for the "you get out what you put in" line
because it's bogus, and that's from personal experience. But if you
take the time to really look around at the many offerings and invest
your time wisely in areas of interest, you'll see a value.
