What an excellent idea!
I think a lot of this may depend on what the criteria were for
selling this to mgmt. If you sold this on educational opportunities,
for example, then the grid should be heavy with those items. But
many of the things that come to mind are (this is pre-coffee, so I
apologize for the gross incompleteness of this list):
* Educational opportunities (break this down into
beginning/intermediate/advanced, by tool, by skill set, by
technology/methodology)
* Tools--FM, Acrobat, Word, Lingo, etc.
* Skill set--applications of techniques, e.g., "A New Way of
Processing Edits," "Indexing for Single-Sourcing," "Help, I've Never
Localized Before," and so on.
* Technology--conceptual information, e.g., information mapping, XML,
DITA, managing, and so on.
* Business opportunities--may be relevant
* Vendors--meeting up with product vendors and hearing about new
products of value to your department
* Recruiting--are you looking for new people in your group?
* Directions in technical communication--where are we going and how
will this affect the work you're doing?
Is this what you're looking for?
