Over the holidays, they (HQ) made changes to the membership validation
server, which can now accept either your member number or an alphanumeric
member ID you can create.

Silicon Valley's jobs page still has not recovered -- we are
investingating why even now.  Claim was that the change should not affect
us remote users unless we were doing local validation (like rejecting any
"member number" that came in as not being a 5 or 6 digit number).  We did
not change our code, but it no longer works.

It's possible that you tried to log in during a phase when something was
wrong at the server end, or in the client-server interaction for the
client you were intefacing with.
