Some kind of style guide.  Chicago Manual of Style, Microsoft Manual of
Style, etc. Pick your poison.

It's nice to not have to reinvent the wheel when you're approaching a
new document set, and it's always good to have on hand when someone
wants to spend precious time arguing about "why are you doing/saying
this in this particular way?" to tell them "talk to the style guide."
