It's actually very "cost effective," especially if you have enough
volume to need a team and you're working with standardized
templates and writers who are "non-technical" in experience.
What makes having writers onsite in the US more desirable is
the face-to-face interactions possible with US-based developers,
customers, etc.  This asumes, of course, that one is hiring
US-based writers who actually have the "people skills" to do
these things effectively.
