Active vs. passive voice

I'm now in the process of reading yesterday's thread on active vs.
passive voice, and I wanted to add that our style guide says the passive
voice is perfectly acceptable and may even be preferable in certain
cases. If we had to use active voice all the time, we'd run into
awkwardness when describing the software's behavior, because we'd
constantly have to be saying, "The system does this," and "The system
does that."
