One can reasonably argue that the GUI falls within the ambit of technical 
communications. GUI design certainly has large overlaps into technical 
communications, just as there is no clear dividing line between graphic 
design and techical writing where printed matter is concerned. 

I would not include the much larger, non-visible part of the software: 
that is clearly the domain of the engineers, programmers, etc.
