Dynamic publishing and single sourcing

Tim,
I heard of this concept a few years ago. The context was new car
advertising, wherein you would tailor the ad to a specific customer.
If you were selling a beamer, for instance, you might have one type of
ad for the hi-end customer, and one for the younger person seeking a
status symbol. A similar concept is one-off publishing.
For technical writing, I think S1000D holds many of the same promises.
But it is a standard, rather than an implementation.
