Advice sought re. training materials

For that type of training, I'd create a checklist, just to make sure you
cover all the salient points. The user guide is what you leave in their
hands when you're done - they don't need anything more than that. Make sure
you include some sort of skill test so that you can say, "yes, they know
what to do" with some confidence.

PowerPoint presentations are for stand up training and grossly over-used
IMO.

Good luck with that time frame.

Subject: Advice sought re. training materials

Hi All

I have been asked to write a user guide and training materials for a
software application. The time allocated for the user guide is ten days and
time for training materials is four days.

As part of this, I must also visit the end user and train them on the new
application. My understanding is that a small group of people need to be
trained (maximum of six), and that training should be informal. They do not
require a 'stand up' trainer, more someone to spend time at each person's
desk, working through the system.

So, I am pondering what sort of materials to prepare for this approach to
training. I am thinking along the lines of a Powerpoint presentation (that
would be printed for each person), where each slide acts as a 'crib sheet'
for key tasks (they will have the user guide for detailed information).

I just wondered if anyone has any brighter ideas...?

Thanks!

P.
