I tried this on the Word-PC list, but got back a stunning silence. Maybe I
didn't explain it well, or maybe no one else had a clue either. So--pardon
to those on both lists--let me try with you folks.
I have a large manual made up of a dozen Word files with lots of screen
shots, each with a figure number. I numbered them using Insert Caption. In
fact, I did it two releases ago, and there's never been a problem. I
recently got these files back from our Spanish translators. They managed to
translate not just the text in the captions but the codes that Word uses to
identify captions (STYLEREF, etc.). My English language version of Word
couldn't read them, naturally. I had to change them all to English. Now,
I've done this before, with no problem.
But now, in nearly every chapter (file) when I go to Insert Cross-reference,
there are no entries at all for the Reference type: Figura. They're
displayed, but the list says they don't exist! I'm a pretty experienced,
long time Word user, and I don't get it.

Has anyone ever had this happen? I'm going to miss a deadline going back to
every figure and regenerating these things!
Help would be ideal, but sympathy will do.
