"Conventional thinking" and "common sense" are quite often confused.
There's a difference. Common sense is directly proportional to knowledge,
including knowledge of cultural issues.

Not giving a mission-critical project to a high school intern _is_ common
sense, not "conventional thinking." Would you be willing to give a
mission-critical project to a high school intern? Somehow I doubt it. The
whole thread has nothing to do with cultural issues - it has to do with
being as much help to the intern as you can be while getting your own job
done properly and on time.
