Not that I want to defend StarOffice (personally, I dislike its
MS Office-wannabe appearance), but I've never seen this kind of
problem in over a year of using the software. From what I've
heard, most people don't have these sorts of difficulties.

However, when you're dealing with export filters, anything can
happen. And, of course, the complexity of the document has a
large effect on the success of the filters, too.

Again, I have to say that my experience is different.
StarOffice's WYSIWYG isn't perfect, but, for me it's been mostly
satisfactory.

I know that I've seen at least one book on StarOffice - maybe
from Que? From a major publisher of technical books, anyway.

It also occurs to me that the problems described here (and my
relative lack of problems) may be dependent on the platform. My
experience is mostly Linux-based, and it may be that the Linux
version is better maintained.
