I've found that using Print Screen, then pasting into Paint, provides a
good-quality image that can *then* be used as the basis for a GIF file (or
whatver you use). You can also edit the image somewhat in Paint to tidy up
screen-dumps, focus attention on an area of the screen, increase the size of
vital text.

At the moment I'm using this in CorelDraw, but I have used the same process
with other software and always found it gives a good clear image.
