TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Some research is extremely easy, some not so easy. My entire point is
to urge individuals to do the obvious and easy research for themselves
before asking others to do it for them. If they go out on a job and can't
do the simple tasks of writing, they won't find employers too forgiving.
Research is a part of writing, and a writer should be expected to be able to
do it as he or she should be able to spell, punctuate, and otherwise use the
langauge. If I were to offer one of my publishers a book on how to do basic
writer research on the Internet, they would reject it immediately as too
basic a subject to require a book of its own, and yet it seems that many
young writers do not know how to do it. - Herm
