Subject:RE: Are Zip drives obsolete? From:Robert -dot- Partridge -at- MONDEX -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Mon, 13 Nov 2000 16:48:28 -0000
I use both. Zip is quick, fairly reliable, rewriteable, and good for
transferring small to medium files. They're not good for permanent storage,
but are small, and pocketable.
I use CDs for more permanent archiving (noting that they are not permanent)
and transferring larger files. Writing a CD is slower, and more prone to
errors (for best/fastest results you need to set aside an area, or
preferably a separate partition, you can use for smoothly dumping to disk).
I tend to receive more CDs that Zips. I've had more compatibility problems
with PCs and Zips than with Macs and either media.
