I recently bought a cd-writer.
It all depends on how much sharing you plan to do.
Zip Drives
-Generally cheap and easy to install.
-Most publishers have them.
-Easy to use.
-Fast.
-Non-permanent.
-Small capacity. 100 MB isn't a whole lot, but
generally is enough to share files (especially if used
in conjunction with a ZIP application).
CD Writers:
-Glitchy. Rewriters, especially, often don't read on a
"standard" cd drive. Recorders are better, but can
have problems.
-Slow. You can spend thirty minutes to an hour and a
half formatting the drive - and still have to copy the
material to them (of course, this depends on how fast
your system is).
-Resource hogs - your system will slow noticeably.
This knocks out multi-tasking in many cases.
-More permanent.
-Large capacity. No need to ZIP files for sharing.
HTH!
