The *only* reason I own a Zip drive, and the only reason I can see for
having one, is to have the capability to transport information from someone
else's computer with a Zip drive. I strongly favor CDRWs. CDRW drives offer
a much cheaper form of storage, and you can share data with anyone with a
CD-ROM (though you will have to use a CDR instead of a CDRW for folks with
an older CD drive). Zip disks cost $10-15 for 100 Mb vs. $2 or so for
500-700 MBA (depending on the configuration) for a CDRW disk. I'm not sure
what the 250 MBA Zip disks cost. Also, CDRWs are reasonable durable, whereas
Zip disks and drives are far too prone to "click-of-death" type problems.
If you decide for some reason that you want a diskette type storage, take a
look at the Imation Superdisk. It holds 120 Mb, and the drive is backward
compatible with 3.5" floppy disks.
