Andrew, you are the world champion elider.
You grab things out of context, distort the
original facts so that you can evert them to fit your
fixed premise, and then use a reductio ad absurdum
argument to make a point that is wholly at odds with
the original facts.

One of Bill Hall's major conclusions was that structured
document authoring significantly improved writer productivity
right from the start, even without reliance on an information
management system. That is also my own experience.

The only role that major companies play is that they tend
to impose their requirements on all their thousands of small-to-
medium-sized product suppliers, which is necessary to show
compliance with ISO 9000 and similar quality assurance
requirements.

You sound just like Thomas Watson, who upon being shown
the first IBM computer, declared that he saw not future in it,
because 10 or 20 of them would fulfill the world's need for
computing power.

Again, I think you and Don are preaching to a small set of very large
companies. These systems simply will not benefit the majority of tech pubs
