TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The problem stems from the fact that you are copying graphics from Word and
pasting them.
Here is how Word manages graphics that are pasted into Word. Word takes the
graphic and creates a RTF representation of the graphic that it then shows
you as a graphic in Word. However, it is no longer a graphic - it is RTF
text that looks like a graphic. Therefore, when you try to paste the graphic
out to anything else, it sort of works but sort of not - thus the jaggies
you are seeing when you export out to a graphics program.
The solution is to save the Word file as HTML. This will create a GIF of
each graphic with not helpful names such as image0001.gif. But this is a
real graphic that you can open in an image editor and then rotate, etc.
