Subject:Display vs.Appear vs. Open From:Jan Shelton <jan -dot- shelton -at- sabre -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 17 Nov 2000 12:55:35 -0600
I get around this problem (Click ABC. The ABC window appears. [opens,
displays, etc.]) by avoiding it. Unless the application does something
that is *completely* unexpected (which occurs in poorly designed
systems). If that is the case, I employ what I call implicit feedback
(and what Mary Deaton and Cheryl Lockett Zubak, in "Designing Windows 95
Help" call a "locator statement"):
1. Click Details.
2. In the Details window, choose blah, blah, blah...
This construction is shorter, which is a main concern in online writing
(and certainly won't hurt on paper either).
