I once had a recruiter get mad at may for talking directly to her client
company directly. They called me direct several times (during a long, drawn
out process that eventually did not work out), and during the interview I
was given business cards by the manager and the in-house recruiter with an
invitation to call with any questions.

The company was not pleased with her when I mentioned her apparent paranoia
to them.
